Work Group Tackles Castburn Path

The Castburn path project got underway on Sat 22nd of February, led by John Raeside & a strong team of Lorna Dempster, Cath Close, Iain Oliphant, Stuart White, Alastair Rae, David & Christine Riddet, Maureen Wilson (Thanks for the coffee & biscuits), Alison Forrest, Mairi Paterson & Lesley Gibson. Which was a fantastic turnout at such short notice (Due to time taken to obtain grant funding for and acquiring suitable insurance.)

This Project's objectives are to make the path suitable for wheelchair access, as well as a more pleasant  walk for the community. The project group plan to have at least another work morning on this project, if not two, due to the length of the path.

Iain McLeod kindly gave permission for the middle gates to be tied back to afford an easier thoroughfare. Iain also gave permission to run a drain through his land, to improve drainage at the Station Rd end of the Path. Permission was also obtained from ERC.

Funds for materials have been secured from Paths for All who allowed the project funds to be changed to the Castburn Path and the Path round the playing fields for improvement, rather than the Glen which has been delayed due to the extensive tree removal, due to the storms.

We would welcome anyone to join our work groups, keep an eye on the website, or provide your email address, and we will keep you up to date. For details of our next work group phone John Raeside on 07971 228063
